I wanted a "preamp" from my computer pc to my old Fisher receiver (40+ years old) and speakers. Audio signal 1/8 jack from the PC/laptop is not real. Studio level output, no matter how much you crank up the computer volume, it lacks the signal for an auxiliary input to your home stereo. There are several options: USB DAC, connecting USB from a computer / laptop with an RCA or headphone output used for stereo input. However, most of them cost over $100. I have one and every movement of the USB cable, or when the reverse connection is broken, the device stops working. The next option is this bad boy. It doesn't do a DAC, it's just an analog preamp, but it works amazingly. It comes with a power adapter and uses 1/8 stereo input and output with a nice button on the back. It has a cool metal body with an easily movable volume. This is theft. If you want to use tubes, that's cool. Pros: It's cool! It has a metal body, solid on/off switch, standard 1/8 stereo in and out, nice little rubber feet on the bottom, great sound and volume. otherwise, you'll hear the chatter and crackle of your cellular signal through the speakers. I'm assuming that cordless phones or wifi could also affect this. I haven't tested them. When my cell phone is on the table and this device is in the desk safe and turned on, I hear the crackling of the cellular signal. I run Pandora, YouTube or iTunes on my PC/laptop and play many different genres. The tubes add some warmth, with a cool glow. Personal settings: PC at about half volume, preamp (this unit) at about half volume, and vintage receiver at 1/4 volume, and it's loud enough for anything I can push through: Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue, Rush, ACDC, Muddy Waters, Dave Brubeck, Albert King, France Gall, Celtic Woman, Les Paul & Mary Ford, The Cranberries, James Taylor, Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, Ernest Tubb & Willie Nelson, Schumann, Mozart, Jean-Marie Leclerc Complete Sonatas for 2 violins (AIFF lossless bitrate: 4608 kbps, sample size 24 bits, sample rate 96 kHz) sound great through this little device. I would recommend this little device.
