I had another brand I paid about $230 for about 7 years ago, the power cord melted and I contacted MFG and they sent me the parts and fixed it. A few years passed and the thermostat stopped working. I bought these as a replacement. This works very well. I use about four gallons of water a week and it has properties that I really like. #1 is the handle to lift the lid. My old one didn't have one and I had to hug him to take the top off. #2 It has much better power cord placement. They are easy to take off and put on again. The only disappointment is the glass spout of the jug, it's harder to pour out without spilling a bit of water. You really have to take your time when pouring the water or you'll end up with water on the countertop or the floor. I currently have it as a backup and am using my old jug from an old distillery.
