The biggest "effort" is trying to find your perfect size when the last loop is still on your pants and not hanging down, and then cutting the perfect line. This means you'll have to remove the ratchet a few times through trial and error. But you end up with a belt that fits your size and can be adjusted if you lose weight (but not the other way around, so don't undercut). The belt itself is made of good leather and sewn well. The handles are strong on both the ratchet and the strap and are easy to loosen and remove with the push of a button. Overall I am very impressed with the belt and can only recommend it.
