It seemed good and the reviews looked solid, so I moved on.

I'm at work in a small coffee 'club' and we buy a huge 2.5 pound bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee which will last about a month. At the end of the month, both the bag and the coffee are stale. It smells and tastes very different from when it was new and it was always so obvious when we finally arrived and opened a new pack. I decided to try some canisters to keep them fresher longer and found this canister. It seemed good and the reviews looked convincing so I went ahead and bought a few (took 2 to hold 2.5lbs of ground beans, in fact they are perfect when we open a new bag scoop made for a 12- cup pot is sufficient, and then pour the remainder into canisters). Over time I've tried different containers at home and there's usually one thing I don't like about them. I had a jar from Walmart that looked pretty good, but the metal clasp was very wobbly and didn't close easily. The plastic container I tried discolored the rubber seal on me after a few weeks, and to make matters worse, there was still some water in the cavity walls when I cleaned it. I have not found any problems with this container. The latch is smooth, but it definitely feels like it fits snugly into the lid. The stainless steel material is great, it will be easy to clean if I ever feel the need, maybe just a quick wipe with a damp cloth will help. The clock face at the top is handy for reminding you how long the coffee has been there. On one of the two I bought, the numbers on the dial were slightly off center of the window, but that didn't matter much. I really like the extra stainless steel shovel that replaced our little plastic shovel at work that traveled a few miles. This should take forever. So does this thing keep the coffee fresh? Less than a week ago we finished the first bag since I bought the canisters. Comparing the last piece of coffee in the can to the new bag, I noticed a slight difference in taste, but nothing remotely like what I've experienced before. The coffee seemed to be much more stable throughout the month. I would say it was a very successful run and I'm glad I invested in them!

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised
