Review on Sony HX400V Compact Digital Camera: Capturing Brilliance with 50x Optical Zoom in Black by Candra ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nothing special, there are positives and negatives.

I own 2 years. The first thing that surprised me was the quality of the photo! It's just terrible! At the level of a smartphone with an 8MP matrix! At first I thought to fix everything with the help of manual settings, but alas, this did not lead to anything! Soap climbs with terrible force! The foliage of trees, for example, seems to be some kind of green mess. (in the afternoon!) The noise reduction algorithm is very aggressive, it is impossible to turn it off, only two levels of noise reduction in the menu, which do not visually differ. RAW output is not possible and the JPEG compression rate is very high! When the photo is enlarged, JPEG blocks are immediately visible, on my old NIKON D50 with 6 megapixels, this was not observed even at higher magnification! Evening shooting is even more sad, a more or less acceptable result only with multi-frame noise reduction. The dynamic range of a microscopic matrix is depressing! No details in shadows and highlights! Either shadows or lights! Do not dream of catching a thin airy haze or color nuances of a sunset. The tripod thread socket is very flimsy, for a 0.6 kg camera! The plastic has already fallen off. These are the main disadvantages (not to mention batteries, very expensive accessories for the SONY multi-interface shoe). DUST ON THE REAR LENS AFTER 1.5 YEARS! But there are also benefits, of course! This is zoom! For example, only one SIGMA 600mm lens (equivalent in magnification) will cost about 100 thousand. The quality, of course, is completely different, but so is the price! Autofocus is also on top, rarely misses even at dusk, you can turn it off. Control from a smartphone - for an amateur. All manual control functions are like a mirror. cameras. They are complete. Macro is good. Optical stub. good too. As a result: a good device for unassuming photographers. If you previously owned a soapbox - you will be very pleased, if dslr - you will be sad. Good for travel, good video quality (for a camera). Excellent zoom range. If you buy, be sure to go to the store with your memory card, take pictures to see the photos at home before buying! If you like it - take it!

Pros
  • Zoom ratio, "store sony" apps, screen, high quality carl zeiss lens. Autofocus.
Cons
  • photo quality, flimsy, completely leaky body, weak flash and battery.
