This is a nice little digital recorder/player. I bought it with the idea of using it in a package or greeting card as stated on the product listing. But it soon turned into a fun little gadget that could be easily hacked. At first I couldn't get the device to play my message. I recorded the message, placed the device in the dark for a few seconds, then exposed it to the light and waited for it to play. It didn't play. Since it was late, I turned off the light and went to bed. The next morning I went into the room and turned on the light. I overheard the conversation and it was the device playing like this as it should! It revealed that the device was in total darkness for a while before being exposed to light for playback. Looking at the board I saw that it was possible to remove the photocell and install a playback switch. So I unsoldered the light barrier and installed the switch as shown in the photos. Now every time I click the button on the left it plays a message! Good. I believe that with further work you will be able to trigger message playback using an Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
