Review on 🌬️ Vicks Filter-Free Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier: Ideal for Nursery, Bedroom, and Medium-sized Spaces by Holly Wille

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Buy this humidifier, ignore the bad reviews, here's why.

As with most small appliances, I did a lot of research before buying. More than usual. I found myself down a rabbit hole: the health benefits of cool and warm mist, expensive models with sensors, and after 2 days I finally pulled the trigger and 2 months later I couldn't be happier. You get what you pay for. While I think it's actually a REASONABLE price, you can't expect something to work as well as something that costs 2, 3, or 4 times the price. If you don't plan on cleaning your car often, don't buy a car without a filter. If you don't want to trial and error to find out which humidity setting is right for your home and time of year, you'll need to invest in a digital option. I felt compelled to write this long review as after 2 months of use I am frustrated that I was ALMOST held back by some of the other reviews. I'm having a hard time replacing items in our house that I have great working alternatives for, but since we have VERY hard well water with both types of irons, we flew through filters at insane speeds last winter so I wanted something unfiltered, that is easy to clean. We live in central New England and the wood stove is the main heating and convection oven and fairly open 1100 sq ft house concept. m (main living area 500 sq.m.), and this model has become a real find. This winter has started earlier than usual, so my annual humidifier came earlier this year. As soon as it arrived I ran it at full capacity for 3 days and I found out why there are some mediocre reviews and here are a few reasons to ignore them. 1) Don't berate other reviewers, but I don't think they understand how POWERFUL this model is for its tiny size. In fact, I think even the manufacturer underestimated it. Our old humidifier could run at high output for about 36 hours without needing to be refilled, but this one barely gets 15 hours with a similarly sized tank. That's a lot of water you're throwing up in the air, and I'm guessing all of those 'leaky' reviews are coming from here. On the 3rd day of the full start (in hindsight, math, about 6 liters of water) the weather was rainy and warm, and that's when I came home with the car "leaky". Aka I got the house so wet the car was covered then it dripped, condensation onto the floor. Incidentally, the operating instructions warn that condensation can form at over 60% humidity. Without a digital readout, I found that the INSIDE of the tank started to condense some time before the outside, so I just turn the machine off until the next time we fire up the wood stove. 2) There is no filter in the car, so you need to clean the car more often than the filtered ones. This pink/white coating is NOT mold but what remains after the Hs and Os HΒ²O have evaporated. So unless you use distilled water exclusively, even the most expensive home water system won't remove EVERYTHING else, just leaving behind the mineral "scale". Filtered humidifiers pull most of it into the FILTER so you replace them and don't see them in the tank. Nevertheless, you should still clean our humidifier, but the gall to give a bad review because there are residues after 6 months of not cleaning is complete nonsense. 3) This machine is NOT noisy. Sure, you can't hear the pin drop when it's up, but despite its high output, it makes far fewer chuckles than our old one, which was already so quiet it never woke my super light sleeper husband. It's SO quiet 4) The auto shut off works but not when you can see the tank is empty. Because the machine is so quiet and I ran it at about a quarter of the power (so there was no visible fog) after the condensation disaster and I actually forgot about the machine for a couple of days. I came home one night and noticed the tank was empty and still working, so at first I thought the reviewers were right about the shut off feature. But when I turned it off and lifted the tank, I found that the reservoir in the base was still full of water, so I decided to run an experiment to test the auto shut-off. I turned it back on at full power, and after about 100 feet the device shut off. I lifted the tank and the rest of the water disappeared. Not that I actually plan on forgetting about it again, but it's good to know that if I inevitably do, the shutdown will work. 5) This car is a bit harder to clean than my old one. ADVANTAGES: The tank has rounded edges with a large filling hole big enough to fit your hand and sponge in and is easier to clean with no corners. CONS: The conical part is harder to work around (and clean) until I decided to use my wire-handled bottle brush to bend and shape it and stuff it to get to the bottom. To leave 5-star reviews for everyday needs, this one deserves it, so save yourself and your wallet and do some trial and error around your home with this machine.
