I've never had my own lighting gear but I was able to use standard lighting and studios. I'm often asked to do film and photography, but I hesitated to buy lighting equipment because I wasn't sure how much work I would actually be doing and the cost seemed too high. In the end I decided to buy this set just to get back into it and work on my lighting skills and do something different with my art. So far, so good. It took me about 30 minutes to set up and 20 minutes to take down. I didn't realize the background fabrics are so small compared to the size of the actual background frame, but that's ok, I can always get bigger ones. The materials that make up most stands and stands are thin aluminum so you definitely need to handle them carefully as sticks are pretty easy to bend or deform. Lights, parasol and boxes worked well with the lightbulbs for them. I threw away the boxes the bulbs came in and wrapped them in styrofoam to repack for safekeeping. The bag that comes with the whole set won't last long, I can already tell, but buying a large duffel bag will probably last a lot longer, more securely. Some of the items had their own bags for packing and protecting, but most didn't, so I'll probably buy those as well. The only way to get the most out of this kit is to get the lighting and installation right. You also need to handle with care. You can probably use it for a few years if you're not too rough with the set, and I plan to gradually replace each element with maybe better lighting gear when I feel ready. Light cables are relatively short. In view of. I'll probably buy 4-6" extensions to keep in the kit permanently as that was probably the biggest issue I've had while shooting. Learn without spending a lot of money. I am happy with the purchase!
