Works great when a cat uses it

If I were a cat I would definitely use these cardboard cat scratching posts over My Human Family's carpeted stairs. As a cat who always wants her way, I still prefer the carpet on the stairs! I don't know why, but I don't like catnip either, so this doesn't work for me! I'm a unique cat and a little weird but I love it. (My mom still keeps cat scratching posts for me, so maybe one day I'll surprise her and use them. And maybe I even love and prefer them!)
