The block is all metal (steel cable) and includes dividers in case you need to add some sort of separation between the lock and the laptop. Apparently, some Ultrabook style computers have a smaller security slot, and this set doesn't include the sticky protection plate, which you need to purchase separately. However, the lock worked as expected on an HP laptop, a Brother scanner, and a crooked Scepter monitor, all with standard security slots. Bottom line, I saved money, got fast shipping (2 days) and a quality computer lock. It can't get any better.
