Review on OTC Genisys 3421 79 Heavy Duty Starter by George Miller

Money is not big but waste of money.

This kit will only fit very few trucks. Truck manufacturers are not required by federal guidelines to build a universal form of communication into operating systems. I hope that with this set I can display some data and read codes with my Genisys. I tried the HD system on 4 different trucks and was only able to log into one system on one truck. I soon found that I had to buy a complete system from another brand, as well as purchase upgrades or "kits" (as they call it) to access different manufacturers and their programs. You can buy at least 12 different upgrades. To have a complete system I'm looking at around $12,000+. Although this OTC HD kit is available for $500-$800, it wasn't worth it for me because I couldn't get the job done or even get started. I really like my Genisys OTCs but their Heavy Duty program isn't working.

Pros
  • System 3.0 or higher 1GB card required for installation
Cons
  • Doubtful
