Review on Syringe Filters Diameter Biomed Scientific Filtration by Timothy Louis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I'm feeling lucky.

I use them for some experiments where I need to filter solids from aqueous solutions and they don't break down as easily as other cheap Chinese brands. However, they can also be very difficult to filter and clog compared to more expensive filters, seem to have 1/3 the capacity of other brands that cost $30 more. While they don't pop as I mentioned, I've had a few deliveries where they seemed to filter so little (same thing every time, so no variables on my side) that I had to press really hard and they fired. From the luer lock connector it screws in and loses my solution or the PVDF filter breaks and either no filter or partial filter and I have to use a second one. So it's quite frustrating to use 2 for what one's job normally does and kinda degrades the quality. The odd thing is that the quality seems to vary between batches of these filters, so it doesn't happen with every canister I buy. Not sure if QA is an issue or something else. Also, the entire plastic case broke during shipping and I had to throw out the entire batch. I don't know if it was treated that badly in transit, but I've never seen a threaded container's cap crack where the threads are and come loose completely, resulting in the Filters were spilled all over the inside of the box causing them to become contaminated.

Pros
  • filtration
Cons
  • small things
