Read This Before You Buy

I bought this because like many others I have a Kohler San Rafael one piece toilet that needs a new toilet seat. I thought they were crazy when I saw the total video time was 45 minutes and I spent way more. The screws did not come out of the anchors, but the anchors did not turn. Something else corroded or gave way to the nonsense that followed. I literally used a crowbar, drill and saw to unscrew the two existing screws from this toilet. The kit they send you is rubbish, don't waste your money on it - it's complete rubbish that will lead to the same problem in the future. The best way to remove these screws if you are having trouble is: 1) Use a vise and try to get each screw and anchor out. It won't be easy but I was able to remove 1 of 2. This method releases the anchors in the hole. 2) If step 1 fails, use a pry bar with a piece of styrofoam or other protective material under the arch to pry out the screw along with the anchor. I had to use a decent amount of force, but this caused the second screw/dowel to come out. Well that's the most important part, go to your local hardware store and buy a 1 x 3/8 or 11/16 nut (also called an expanding nut) to replace the anchor they have. When you tighten the screw on the nut, the rubber stretches and prevents anything from moving. I can't describe how many times I cursed throughout the process, I laughed at my friend who had to burn the plastic nuts on his toilet with a blowtorch so it must have been karma. For heaven's sake, Kohler, change that awful design!
