I (newbie) bought this to compare the two meters that come with my Zero Water products (everybody always reads differently). There are three reading methods on this counter. : KCl, 442tm or NaCl. * You need 442tm (for measuring tap water, river or sea water, fresh water). When setting up, choose the 0.7 setting to get PPM. The meter starts reading 0.0 PPM. I thought it would warrant a return, but when you take a reading it adjusts to the "standard" three-digit PPM like cheaper gauges do. This is similar to reading your standard zero water meter but unlike a cheaply supplied meter it reads decimal fractions from PPM (e.g. 0.3 PPM). That extra accuracy is nice to have when prompted to change the filter at as low as 0.006 PPM. Filters are expensive. My supplied zero water meters were too high at 80 and 130 ppm. You are useless. Actually uses two AAA cells, not tiny buttons or coin cells as stated on this page. This is a newer model. The PPT on this gauge is PPTS, not parts per trillion. Highly recommended.
