Review on 12V Adapter Cable for Garmin Devices by Marcel Robinson

I bought this to replace a problem cable for my old Garmin that stopped charging for me. Although this cable did charge the Garmin, I was a little disappointed because plugging in the cable and charging resulted in the screen dimming so much it was hard to see. There weren't any brightness settings to make it brighter. So if you have an older Garmin model and the screen dims when plugged in, unplug the charger and let it run on its own battery after charging and the screen should be bright again. That's not good because my Garmin doesn't like to hold a charge over a long ride, so I'll have to plug it in at some point and deal with the dimming. Just do it on a long stretch of highway with no curves or exits, or where you need to pay a lot of attention to changing lanes.
