Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Razer BlackWidow Lite TKL Mechanical Keyboard: Orange Switches - Tactile & Silent Typing - White LED Backlit Keys - Compact & Detachable Cable - Mercury White, Standard Size by Robert Prix

Overall a good affordable TKL, but not entirely silent.

I bought this keyboard hoping for a quiet keyboard for my work environment. The workmanship of the keyboard and cable is good, the functionality is basically good, but the claimed silence is not really. I have experience with mass-produced mechanical keyboards and silent switches and know what contributes to the noise when setting up a mechanical keyboard. The Razer Orange switches used here are comparable to Cherry MX Browns or Gateron Browns in both feel and noise levels. The keycaps resemble the cherry profile and are transparent. The keyboard has a kind of floating design, where you can see the faces of all the switches. which helps spread the light effect. You don't need to install or use the Razer Synapse software to use the keyboard and control the lighting, but you can use the software if you want to remap keys, create your own macros, and more. Kit includes: - Keyboard - Thin plastic cover to protect dustproof keyboards - Detachable braided micro USB cable with rubber grommets - Extra O-rings for keycaps - Main keycap remover (ring claw) - Razer paper and stickers General Good Features: - Plug and Play, no software required for Basic Functionality - Good visibility in general lighting - Overall good build quality - Switches are comfortable to type on Personal Complaints: -tactile switches make this keyboard not really silent. A different switch design and/or case design would help reduce the noise even further. The O-rings only helped to muffle the sound a bit from the downward movement of the keycaps. From experience I've used Cherry MX and Kailh Silent switches and they are noticeably quiet, which is how I like them and don't require key o-rings. The backlight does not highlight shifted characters or FN functions on keycaps. For example, in the number row in the dark, the labels of characters such as "!" are not visible, and in the F line in the dark, the labels of the volume/media controls are not visible. With other keys like the slash "/" you can't see the question mark "?". in the dark, because it doesn't burn. This problem isn't that severe unless you're working in the dark or in very low light, but isn't the backlight the best way to see everything in the dark or in low light? At least it would be better if the offset characters were also backlit because I think almost everyone uses them the way they use all letters and numbers. The stabilizers used are metal bars in the basic style (no cherry bars on the ends). . Stabilizers contribute little to noise, and this design makes it difficult to swap out different keycap sets because you need additional parts that fit into the cherry-style stem holes on most keycap sets. They had factory lube/grease. Bottom row of keys (CTRL, WIN, ALT, spacebar, etc. ) ) mostly has non-standard/unusual dimensions. This makes it difficult to find full sets of keycaps (not Razer branded) to fit this keyboard due to the size of the keycaps on the bottom row. Unfortunately, this custom bottom row size is also found on many other gaming keyboards. generally a good affordable TKL option. Tactile switches make less noise than all clicks, but being quieter than clicks is a low score. For me the main requirement was to find a quiet environment and that didn't really help. Even with the extra O-rings, the noise hasn't dropped to the level of other silent switch mechanical keyboards. Many other brands offer keyboards with different built-in silent switches in different price ranges. Some of them: Ducky, Durgod, Leopold, Vortex, Obins, Varmilo, Filco, KBParadise, IKBC, Mistel and Ganns. In terms of silent switches, Cherry MX, Gateron, and Kailh have affordable and accessible both linear and tactile types. There are others if you're into building mechanical keyboards, but they cost more and aren't often found in commercial setups.
