Review on Brainwavz Replacement Memory Foam Earpads For Large Over The Ear Headphones Accessories & Supplies by John Twardowski

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing pair of ear pads I would never recommend with Audio Technica headphones

I checked the official Brainwavz Audio website for this information but they don't mention it anywhere. Do not buy this for professional headphone monitors. The ear pads feel great. The memory foam is very comfortable, better than the original Audio Technica ear pads. The material appears to be very durable. But this pair of ear pads completely changed the sound signature of the headphones. I bought them for a pair of ATH-MSR7. These monitor headphones don't have very strong bass, but they sound very good. The Brainwavz earpads killed the bass completely, and the mids and highs sounded like you were in an echo chamber. I didn't even know that ear pads could change the sound signature of headphones so much. I think the main problem is that Brainwavz is trying to make a very versatile product that fits all headphones. They should probably make specific ear pads for specific brands, even if that means a higher price. And even with a very specific brand, each model is very different. I don't think a pair of ATH-MSR7 earpads will fit a pair of ATH-M50. Incidentally, I also tested these ear pads with a pair of ATH-M50 and got similar results. Another point to keep in mind is that I have big ears. These ear pads make my ears look very small so you can imagine how big they are. The previously mentioned echo chamber effect is probably caused by its size. Someone mentioned in their review that "the same amount of bass can still be squeezed out of them with some EQ adjustments". You should not use the equalizer settings with monitor headphones like the ATH-M50 or ATH-MSR7! It's not about getting used to the changed sound characteristics. You should not change the sound of professional monitor headphones.

Pros

Cons
  • I vaguely remember
