I came across this through a documentary about Japanese shears. The host spoke about modern offerings and how they have sold millions of copies due to their unique blade design. It has been found that because the blades are curved throughout their length, they can cut through many materials with ease. The demo included cutting through corrugated cardboard and even a towel. Blade. Notably, both ends are pretty much useless, and even the middle one struggles with basic tasks you wouldn't with regular non-Staples branded scissors. Most annoying is when you try to cut the tape. Because they're as bad as scissors, they attack the glue, applying to the entire blade, making them even worse when cutting. This is either a design flaw or insufficient control over manufacturing tolerances. I won't speak for a million others, but the one I have really sucks.
