You need a spare on hand.
They are good and do what they were designed to do. Depending on how you use them, they all wear out after a year or two. Have a backup ready if you start losing connection. Using the speaker on your phone extends its lifespan. Most of my phones have one of these and the cord rarely tangles and never does when I use my phones properly.
