Review on Melissa Doug Deluxe Wooden Puzzle by Robert Hayes

My trust in Melissa and Doug is undermined! In my opinion this puzzle is NOT solid, durable or a gift. I don't usually write reviews because I just don't have the time, but I think I should warn other parents about this so they don't make the same mistake I did. I would like to give this puzzle a glowing review as I have great confidence in Melissa and Doug and the good quality of other products made by them. However, I had to read the reviews and see the photos of others, but trusting this brand, I simply bought these for my son's Easter basket. It says it's a tree and colorful drawings. Actually it's not a tree array like I thought. It was just pressed wood at best, but most likely a cheap, decal-covered, incomplete board. My son is 19 months old but I suspect like many babies his age he still puts things in his mouth. I noticed that parts of the sticker and backing have come off. Once wet it scrapes off easily and the back has absorbed moisture and also started to scratch so I know it's not like advertised wood. Since I really have no idea what the stuff actually is, I won't let my son play with it again until he's older and teething, if ever. It's sad because he played with her less than a day and seemed to really enjoy her. It was his favorite item in his Easter basket. The other unexpected part was the saw marks; Judging by the pictures I thought they were just part of a "work of art" but they are not. I think it was part of the "handwork". If the quality was otherwise as expected, I wouldn't mind much. This may work for an older child, perhaps preschool after teething, but between 12-20 months (or younger) I would advise against buying this if your child is still putting things in their mouth. It would be a waste of money as it was for me. If you decide to buy more, I hope you have better luck than me.
