We use this in RVs. It filters out "bits" but has little effect on microbes. It removes silt, clay, sand and anything else that can damage the interior plumbing. It must be used in combination with the "clean" water you will find in RV sites. We use a different type of filter in the RV to filter our drinking water. A good thing about it is that it doesn't restrict the water flow, where if we attach a cartridge that filters finer particles, it slows down the water flow significantly. You are basically limited to 40 pounds of pressure on your RV where when used in a home system the pressure is higher allowing for better water flow. I have bought this filter several times as it is only good for a few months.
