The house itself is charming and easy to assemble. The stain looks more like washing. You can see through it. It's blue, but my shade is so light it almost looks like an orchid. They say it's suitable for outdoor use, but be aware that it's not insulated at all and there's no urethane on the outside to protect it from water. The windows inside don't fit snugly when closed, and there's no plastic on the windows, so cold air gets in easily. Having read the reviews on here and many other sites, I knew the house was small and that some cats would not fit in, but thought it would be fine for my skinny little stray dog. No way. Too small. This house is better suited for a kitten. Even a small adult cat would not have enough space to lie down without falling down the hole leading to the lower level. I am extremely disappointed. Another problem is that when they pack it they have to pack it with the paint still wet because some of the packing material actually got stuck to the panel. I removed it with warm water and the stain was gone immediately. It has an odor but we couldn't figure out what it was. I think the smell alone can discourage a cat from going inside. However, I'm still keeping it because the price I bought it for was low, but I'll try to make it a little bigger and more insulated, and I'll make it out of urethane on the outside to protect it from that Weather.
