I've been burning things to DVD-R with offline recorders for years. Just something I like to archive because streaming means nothing unless you have high speed unlimited internet and a subscription. And while HDMI is crystal clear, you can't record from it, especially with a lot of old equipment like mine. Well, this device converts the HDMI signal to a standard analog RCA cable, allowing my analog inputs to display and/or record. Note that the quality of the video has degraded significantly to your typical 480, even appearing a bit washed out as a result. But for what I had to do. It works out. NOTES: - It has an NTSC or PAL switch but I don't see any difference in switching. I'm a little confused, but if it works for me, I'm fine. Sometimes the video is shiny, and sometimes the video is confused (a couple of times it almost showed a photo negative). But that's only a few times and most of the time it works as it should. Often disconnecting/reconnecting or disconnecting and reconnecting can help. Ideal for monitoring on an analogue TV, VCR or standalone DVD-R player. I can't think of any other reason to use it though. it works for that.
