Review on 🧡 Breathtaking Bargello: 26 Charted Bargello and Needlepoint Designs by Michelle Langley

Nice but tricky

Although this is one of the prettiest Bargello pieces I've ever seen (and I've been making fibers for many years), I'm not giving it more stars because it's almost impossible with today's available materials to reproduce designs. Joyce Petshek really is an artist. But her designs are based on kits she put together for high-end stores years ago. Copyright 1997, almost ten years ago. She mainly works with Madeira silk, which to my knowledge is no longer available (I googled). Madeira embroiders beautifully with cotton and thread, but I could not find their silk. Therefore, it is difficult to understand what is needed in other fibers for embroidery. Sometimes her instructions are to work with the provided streams. Presumably she means threads posted in sets that are no longer available. The diagrams are complex, but that may be because the design is complex. The work is nice, but this book is not for beginners.
