Review on πŸ“Ά MOTOROLA MB7420 Cable Modem - 16x4, White - 686 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0: Ultimate Internet Connectivity! by Justin Reese

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Over 2 years old and only had 1 streaming issue (which may not be the modem's fault)

I ordered this a few weeks after release as I don't like the bright lights could endure the Arris models. Fortunately, this product did not disappoint. The lights are a bit bright but EVERYWHERE as bright as the Arris model I had. In fact, I put some LightDims Original Strength stickers on the light to make it even dimmer. As for setup, I just went to the Comcast website, activated it, waited for it to be primed, and it worked. I ran a speed test before and after installing this modem and I saw no change in my speed (55Mbps down, 5Mbps up and 37ms ping). However, when I'm not just rendering things, web pages seem to load faster than before. I also went to 192.168.100.1, updated my username and password, and checked all the device information (although I had no idea what most of it meant). Overall, I would recommend this cable modem, especially compared to the current Arris. models. UPDATE (5/2016): I've been using this modem for over 3 months and it's still working great. UPDATE (7/2017): After 1 year and 6 months it started crashing. When I watch a Twitch stream for about 6 hours, it crashes. I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting it, then it works again. UPDATE (2017-09-30): A few weeks after my last check it just stopped reloading. I have no idea why it even did that, but it's been working fine ever since. I changed it back to 4 stars because I have no idea what happened. However, I sent an email to Motorola that never responded. Customer service seems to suck. Lack of customer service coupled with random resets that have been happening for about a month are the reasons behind the 4 star rating. UPDATE: (7/1/2018): I'm still getting connection errors when trying to watch a stream on Twitch. However, this only happens when I'm watching Twitch. So I'm not sure if Comcast is suppressing Twitch, something on the Twitch site, or my cable modem. I tried connecting the cable modem directly to the PC but the problem persisted. At least I know my ASUS router isn't the problem. The top of this cable modem definitely gets very hot. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. UPDATE: (06/03/2018): After the last update I had no more problems with the modem. I will only keep updating if there are any problems.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Doubtful
