I am currently pleasantly surprised by the Jensen JBS-200 Bluetooth CD Music System. When I took it out of the box, my first concern was how cheap it felt in my hands. The speakers are so light I can imagine blowing them off in any gusty wind. I definitely wouldn't pack it in a car and expect it to live in a dorm for very long. However, the device actually "looks" quite nice and has a decent sound for the price. There's not a lot of bass, so don't expect a deep sub-theater feel, but it works well in a small room. If you're into EDM or electronic music, this sure won't rock your boat. This is more suitable for rock, folk, indie, country, or songs where it's normal for the EQ to be less muddy in the low end, leaving a cleaner sound in the mids and highs. Better suited to music with lyrics and vocals than bass frequencies that vibrate in the brain. Personally, I just needed something for listening to audiobooks in a quiet environment, and it had to be compact enough to fit at the head of my bed with a bookshelf, so perfect for my needs. I was willing to pay a lot more but everything I looked at was too much. Regarding the actual operation of the device: the CD compartment opens a little weakly manually from above, but as soon as a CD is inserted and the door is closed, it loads quickly and the motor runs quietly. With the remote control, you can pause, fast forward, rewind, repeat, or stop at the end of a CD. AM radio reception is very good with only an internal antenna, FM radio has an external cable that you'll have to play with for decent reception. The remote control is very small, but perfectly adequate. You set the alarm with the remote control and have the option of being woken up to radio, CD or just a beep. It also gives you the option to set the alarm volume. I use a beep and it's a pretty decent sound to wake me up. It starts very quietly and then gets louder and louder over the course of 10-15 seconds up to the set maximum volume. There's a snooze button that resets every nine minutes until you turn off the alarm. It has a Bluetooth receiver, so audio from other devices will play through the speakers. I hooked it up to my computer in another room to play my CD collection stored on my computer's hard drive, or you can hook it up to play music from your phone. However, this device does not transmit Bluetooth, so you cannot hear the sound through Bluetooth headphones. There is an audio output for connecting wired headphones with 3.5mm jacks. There is also an AUX input socket for connecting a wired audio device such as an MP3 player that requires a 3.5mm jack (not included). The LED display can be adjusted to dark, medium or bright with the remote control. I've played a variety of CDs, from professional retail CDs to CDs burned on my computer, and so far this unit has played all types of CDs with no issues. In general, for such a price, it is quite enough. I think my main concern is how durable this device will prove to be, but after months of using it for several hours each day, so far so good.
