Difficulty with parental control

I think it works well as a modem. I have a much slower download speed than the cable company promised, but that's TBD if it's the modem/router or something else. I really liked the idea of having parental controls without having to pay for monthly maintenance, but it didn't work as expected. They need a free OPENDNS account to set up a PC and I can login to OPENDNS from their website but when I use the same login to access the PC through the modem app it just turns around until it crashes so effectively that I don't have computers with this unit, despite what they say. I think this has been a known issue for many months with no solution. So if you need PCs, don't expect them to come with this device. I called support and they just didn't know what to do about it. -- Update -- although firmware updates should be automatically downloaded from your ISP through Netgear. I (Atlantic Broadband) didn't but they were willing to do it on request and work with current PC firmware as advertised. I've spent several hours of my life trying to figure that out. I hope this saves someone else from the same ordeal. In terms of speed, this router isn't as fast as 5G routers, but I moved it to a more central area and it helped, so it's fast enough for me (I get about 30Mbps, though for my internet speed is advertised). provider is 100 Mbit/s). The 5G rental I tried gave me over 60Mbps.

Pros
  • Good build
Cons
  • Easy maintainability
