Review on πŸ’‘ Amazon Basics 10-Port USB 3.0 Charging Hub Docking Station: Efficient Multi-Device Power Solution by Pablo Rudon

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great hub and lots of ports, but layout needs some work

I've had it for a few months now and so far it seems very reliable and durable. I ended up buying a new USB 3.0 cable to connect to my computer simply because the cable that came with it wasn't long enough for my application. My only criticism (the reason I couldn't get 5 stars) is the layout. . First, I would have preferred a device with a couple of ports on the top for easily plugging and unplugging USB drives. I bought this to replace a Monoprice dual top USB hub and I miss it so much. Don't get me wrong, the Monoprice hub was a piece of junk, but that was its only redeeming quality. I guess this Revain hub has ports on the front for easy flash drive attachments and cell phone charging, but the top ports are just more convenient for something that gets plugged in and out constantly, like flash drives. Another thing I would change about the layout is the placement of the ports on the back and sides. I know the designer tried to optimize space on all sides of the device, but I'm really not a fan of cables running in all directions, back, front, and both sides. This makes it difficult to place on a desk when using most ports. I would have liked something longer with more ports on the back. In fact, I'd rather have all ports, including power and PC upstream, on the back, except for the flash drive ports mentioned above on the top. It was fairly trivial to place dual-stack ports on the back of this hub with little or no resizing. This would give room in the back for 8 ports, power and uplink. Two more ports on top for flash media and you have 10 ports and it's almost a perfect device.

Pros
  • Check your device's load current if it's used for charging (e.g. iPad/tablets) or high power devices (e.g. hard drive); Insufficient current may cause slow charging or other errors.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
