I have a new laptop to replace an outdated desktop computer. I wanted the functionality and performance of my desktop computer with wireline, video and USB connectivity and the ability to easily turn off my laptop and take it with me. I also needed to support two external 27-inch HD monitors. The ability to support a laptop screen for a third screen is also desirable. The laptop itself only supports one HDMI port in addition to the screen. After doing some research, this TOTU 11-in-1 USB-C Dock Connection met my needs with a single USB-C connection that provided the fixed video, USB, and network connectivity I needed. The device has HDMI and VGA video connections, which is nice. for flexibility in monitor connection. Both support my monitor resolution of 1920 x 1280 HD. I didn't have a display, cable, or 4K TV to test the full 4K resolution. My laptop had a limitation when using both ports (HDMI and VGA) from this unit at the same time, with both displays only running in dual display mode (where both ports show the same thing). This is a small minus as I can still support my two external displays via the laptop's HDMI port in addition to one of these ports. I understood this limitation before purchasing as it was mentioned in the specs. The ethernet port is a Realtek USB GbE connection and worked well. I don't know how to test the performance and throughput, but it's more than enough for my 50Mbps internet speed. All USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports worked as expected, and it's nice to have additional ports to connect a desktop keyboard and mouse, and an external hard drive for backups. I also checked the SD card port and it worked fine. Something to consider before buying. To support video from this device, your laptop must support USB-C alternate video mode. The best way to find this out is to check your laptop's specs. Many will say that the USB-C port is only for data transfer. If USB-C supports Thunderbolt or Displayport, video will work with this USB-C hub. One way I've found to tell if Thunderbolt or Displayport is supported is if a port has a lightning bolt icon next to the port, or a DisplayPort icon (which looks like a P in a D) next to the port. (Google the DisplayPort icon to see what it looks like) Keep in mind that not all laptops with a USB-C port support video. This is not a limitation of the TOTU USB hub, it is a limitation of the laptop. There are a few minor downsides: As mentioned, both video ports used simultaneously only work in dual display mode. If you both need to work as separate monitors, this may not work for you. That was fine with me as I could still use the laptop's HDMI port to connect a second external monitor. The second small drawback were the LEDs on the Ethernet port. They are always on and do not change whether the ethernet cable is connected or not. They don't indicate connection, activity, or Ethernet speed. The Ethernet port works here too. LEDs serve just about every purpose. Overall, this USB-C docking hub has met all my expectations and is a good docking solution with the one or two ports needed to have all the connectivity of my previous desktop with the portability of a laptop.
