I got this because my DMM doesn't have enough reach to measure small capacitance values and this device has a small clamp to measure SMD capacitors . It can be powered from a USB port or charger, from the power outlet provided with the kit, and from batteries. I put 4 AA batteries in and checked the capacitors. It should be noted that the device needs to be calibrated almost every time it is turned on. No big deal, just hold the little clamp open and press the calibrate button and a second later when it says "OK" it's calibrated. I then tested a couple of SMD 1208 capacitors, a pair listed as 100nF tested as either 94nF or 95nF which is fine as they were 10% capacitors. Then I tested about 5% 50pF capacitors and they tested as 44-45pF. So it's a little over 5% of the rated power, but I'm not sure if the capacitors I have are enough as advertised, 50pF 5%. But that's enough for my purposes of determining the approximate capacitance of (usually) unmarked SMD capacitors so I can reuse them after they come loose from the PCB or tape. While I can't test the promised accuracy of this device, it works. Another note: the leads of the included small clip are quite short (and crocodile clips too, by the way), which makes picking up an SMD capacitor with the clip a little more awkward than with (more expensive) capacitive tweezers. Meter. Generally worth the money.
