This little voice recorder is perfect for the purpose I bought it for. It's the smallest of the three microcassette recorders I've owned and fits comfortably in the palm of my hand. After a short, frustrating learning curve, it's very easy to work with. The play and record controls are buttons, but the fast forward and rewind functions are controlled by a slide switch located just below the play and record function. This is actually a great design as it makes recording accidents unlikely. Since voice activation defeats the purpose I need a voice recorder for, I appreciate that voice activation can be turned off. AAA batteries last a long time when the device is turned off between uses. So far I've worked over eight hours on a single set of batteries and it's still working. The only drawback is a loud noise during recording and playback. The noise isn't on the tape, it's in the car. It doesn't drown out the voice or bother me, but it can annoy those who value crystal clear playback quality. I bought a refurbished unit and am happy with the value. The only digital recorders I could find in stores cost three times the price of my small refurbished recorder and I can't imagine they would work any better for my needs. but can be annoying for those who value crystal-clear playback quality.
