I bought this card reader to prepare for a bulk file transfer and photo editing session that I've been putting off for a while. I was hoping it would work well, but it's just an average card reader. No better than the ones you can buy at your local mart store. The advertising text of this reader refers to the speed of 5 Gb/s. I know it's unrealistic to expect this, that's what USB 3.0 might be capable of. However, I expected it to outperform my USB 2.0 hardware by more than a small fraction. The reader was plugged into a USB 3.0 port on the motherboard. My USB 2.0 setup typically delivers around 10-15Mbps per USB 2.0 port. I thought I could get at least 20-25 Mbps but it was only 2 or 3 times better. So I didn't see much point in it. The top of the player has a very thin metal plate. At first I thought it was plastic, but it changes temperature at a different rate than the rest of the case. Most likely, it serves as a radiator for internal organs. This slab has been machined and is smooth on one side and raw on the other. I got a scratch removing the reader from the port and decided to return it. Ugreen makes a good cable, but this reader is a poor attempt. Skip, try something else.
