Review on Linksys EA9300 Max-Stream AC4000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router: Affordably Renewed, Yet Again! by Ronald Noel

Weak Hardware: Router

The item you purchased is FACTORY CERTIFIED with a 90 day warranty. I often buy this way as it should be like new after being repaired at the factory. Most of the time this is the case and I get a cheaper product that works just as well as a new one. From day one I had some problems with 5G channels. Multiple reboots. I once had to go back to factory settings and restore it from a backup after various crashes and performance glitches. I should have returned it then, but if a reboot fixes it, it goes on, doesn't it? Today (after 5 months) the radio finally died. I'm a technician and pretty much diagnosed the problem in a few attempts, but figured if I had any chance of a warranty claim I should contact tech support. I called and tech support walked me through all the steps I had taken prior to calling and finally gave up on me which made matters worse. Now I have an expensive router without wireless radio. I connected my previous Cisco (LinkSys EA3500) to it, so now I have Wi-Fi and I'm back to my old settings and bandwidth. I asked tech support if there was a discount or RMA process to offset the cost of a new device and I was directed to their Black Friday sales page where I was told to upgrade to their top device , because it is "good". to treat. I assume it's as long as the device runs longer than a few months. I think the QC sticker on the box doesn't mean anything anymore.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
