Review on πŸ”Š Enhance Your Audio Experience with YAMAHA RX-V4A 5.2-Channel AV Receiver and MusicCast Integration by Jim Bethea

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Required firmware: updated review

Receiver paired with Sony X900H via Zeskit 8k cable, works with PS5 (direct to A/V via port 3 eArc) and Xbox Series X (port 4 HDMI 2.1) eArc A: The functionality is broken and hopefully can be fixed in a firmware update. In some TV applications, the sound is interrupted between 1 second and 30 seconds (can be an interval of 15 minutes or an hour or more). Audio dropouts are said to work at 4k 60hz. Switching to the TV's speakers confirms that the audio doesn't drop out, and that only happens via eArc. Others have reported the same problem with Samsung and LG TVs. Color Bars: When the PS5 is running in HDMI 1 mode, significant color streaks appear. The only way to remove them is to switch to HDMI 2 mode. The receiver reports the change from YCbCr 4:2:2 to YCbCr 4:2:0. HDR doesn't work properly. Tested with Demon Souls and the sky has extreme color streaks, also tested with 4KUHD Amazon Prime Movies. Tested PS5 straight to x900h and no color bars or HDR issues. These are big issues, but the receiver audio processing and sound is great for the price. Hopefully the next firmware update will fix these issues. and the sky has extreme color banding, also tested with 4KUHD Amazon Prime Movies.
