This "sock" doesn't need a shoe or sandal around it. The material is mechanically speaking, very robust. Though they are made for outdoors, I use them as a night slipper . I live in rural Thailand and the night time often involves having to go outside to chase King Cobras off of the back porch. (No kidding.) They run a little small . They are very warm. They are made from a a hybrid wet suit material. This item needs to be matched to the shoe or sandal they are going to worn with. I wear a 12 and were I to use this item on a formal trek, I would purchase a 12 1/2. I would use this product on late fall, winter treks involving water crossings and rain. This item is so well made, that I doubt I will ever have to purchase again. ✯✯✯✯✯✯ Six Stars.
