Very hard lime for carving.
I carve a lot of bass and plan to use this shape for a Christmas present. Most, but not all, basswood I have worked with can be easily cut with sharpened hand tools. This finish was possibly the worst I've ever carved. Going against the current and where the wood joins is worse than maple. If you want to use it for carving, I recommend using wood carving tools. Otherwise, like mine, it becomes firewood.
