If you forget your password, there doesn't seem to be a way to reformat the drive to free up disk space. The password is intended to protect against unauthorized access to files. However, I have used flash drives which allow me to reset a forgotten password by wiping everything on the drive and starting over. Computer flash drives don't seem to have this option. So now I have a flash drive that I can no longer use because all my password attempts have failed.
