You can avoid this by following a few simple steps, which to my surprise aren't listed in the guide. #1 - NEVER move the number wheels when the lock is unlocked. #2 - NEVER move the number wheels when the shaft moves into the 90 degree passcode setting zone - a surefire way of not knowing your passcode. #3 - Set each digit separately, making sure the lock opens and closes between each digit. #4 - If your padlock suddenly won't lock, DO NOT set the PIN numbers in the password setting section. This will permanently change your new and now unknown combination. Instead, try opening the lock by changing the 1-2 digits before and after the original passcode separately and see if you can open the lock. #5 - I would advise you not to leave the lock unlocked in your pocket or purse. as the numbers may change accidentally. If the padlock doesn't respond (stuck open or closed) the tumblers have been encrypted with a different number than the desired password - it's technically hackable - but it's one of 10,000 possible combinations - you can find this if you're dedicated enough but This probably means that the lock is garbage now. Otherwise, these locks should slow down someone trying to break into your stuff. Well built and seemingly difficult to crack without some persistence. Of course anyone with a good bolt cutter has easy access, but if you need bolt cutter protection you should probably get a bigger lock or maybe a steel door. Some people have been able to pick these locks by pulling on them. and test the combination - I couldn't do the opposite to figure out the code my previous lock was accidentally set to.
