Got this for my two kids for Christmas this year, both 6-8 years old, they loved playing with it all day and wanted to mix their colors together. The younger children also wanted to play and were a little jealous. Even the adults took turns playing with the sand. It's a very cool feeling, it just melts in your hands, it can be a stress reliever for adults, almost like a ball, but better. There is enough sand included for a good experience. I believe adding another pound of sand can make it messier. My kids couldn't help it: small crumbs of sand got in here and there, but for the most part they were able to keep it in the tray.
