These were 2 packs. The first lasted about a week on my portable hard drive. The second lasted several months, only then she suffered the same fate. The cable connection on the USB side seems to have come loose internally with normal use. This fails in the middle of saving the data. The laptop reports the missing device. The error is due to poor quality internal connections. Big disappointment.
