Unattractive product, unprofitable purchase.

The Half-tone performs poorly in terms of XA, general sharpness across the field, AF, and overall performance when compared to the EF 24-70 f/2.8L II USM when both lenses are set to a focal length of 50 millimeters and an aperture of f/2.8 (which is open for zoom!).
Only if you want to fix things, have exactly fifty kopecks, a wide aperture, and autofocus is it worthwhile to take it now.
The advantages or disadvantages of bokeh, color, or pattern will not be covered in this essay. Some people really like it, but in my opinion, those people have never seen truly artistic lenses, which are often those that lack autofocus. There is a sketch, and while the background washes and the colors communicate well, I'm not very taken with it.
Thus, I do not advise buying this lens! Although the EF 24-70 II and the 70-200 II are not significantly more expensive, if you don't need a fix, they will win in every category. The 70-200 II also has a good stub, which can make up for the two and a half stop difference for some (f/1.2 - f/2.8). XA are just awful, not just for a lens of this class but for lenses in general, including at / 2.8. The sum of money was beyond my comprehension.

In 2022, the lens will no longer be functional.
Autofocus, HA, and sharpness were already below average when the review was published in 2022; nevertheless, by today's standards, they are far worse than the baseline, which was already inadequate.
If autofocus on the EOS is necessary, pick a 1.4 half-length from the available choices.

Pros

a significant depth of field - outstanding in terms of appearance, design, and assembly, as well as resistance to dust and moisture (requires a filter) - focusing speed and precision that are sufficient but about average (used on a single Canon EOS-1Ds) (Was set for 2022) - There is no fifty-fifty autofocus for a Canon system that is better than this lens if component quality for any price is the most critical factor for you. This lens was created primarily for business applications. (Unrealistic in 2022) - all of the advantages that come with FR 50 mm as standard (universality of use: from landscapes to portraits and reportage)

Cons

- a very high price, but generally speaking, it is justified because the lens is L and there is a difference with /1.4. - Not the best autofocus by modern standards (but fairly decent), the infamous shift focus that is inherent in such large relative apertures. - Up to about 1.8 holes are not working at all in the open due to terrible HA and low sharpness - in relation to the two points that came before this one: The 85 mm f/1.2 Canon is even more exact with autofocus than the 50 mm f/1.2 Canon, which was the first of the two. - slightly outdated (2022), which explains why the autofocus, sharpness, and HA cannot compete with new lenses, not even zooms of the same price (this refers to the 24-70 II and 70-200 II, of course), but somewhere (in terms of sharpness and HA) and fixes (non-L) and zooms (L) are cheaper, but newer. - somewhat outdated, indicating that buying it won't be very beneficial because it needs to be updated, which will lead to a big price decrease for the product in question. Otherwise, it's no longer funny because the EF 35 / 1.4L USM was announced in 1998 and doesn't even have dust-mist protection. As for the rest, the new half-tone hasn't been heard yet. Around the beginning of 2022, the 35L ate is finally audible. Otherwise, it stops being humorous. - With the exception of aperture, the EF 24-70 II outperforms him in each of the other categories. Beginning in 2022, there will be a price differential of about 10-15K between the two lenses: about 50K for the 50 mm and 60-65K for the 24-70 II.
