I jumped on the bandwagon. I received my new Gansai Tambi watercolors yesterday and chose the colors. It's a good set, I had a gift card so I only paid about $14 for it. I like big pots, but I don't like color. They shine if you apply them a little thicker. I think the binding is different from western watercolors. I know that some traditional Japanese and Chinese watercolors use gelatin or animal glue to bind the pigments. Maybe Gansai Tambi uses something similar? They seem to be wetted differently than my St. Petersburg watercolors by Yarka and Kotmana. They definitely don't look like transparent western watercolors. They are more opaque and I can't wait to use them for Chinese brush painting. I feel the Chinese names match the colors better than the English translated names. I asked my mother to translate Chinese calligraphy for me. My box wasn't individually wrapped which was fine, there was a dust cover and the box lid was held together with a plastic tie. I was a little worried these colors would break, but they did well with just tiny chips of paint here and there. No problem. The set is actually a bit bigger than I expected. I've included a Micron pen and brush for size reference.
