We bought 2 of these, one for our bedroom and one for the nursery as we brought 2 kittens into our house at about the same time. I've always been allergic to cats and my kids have had signs of it too, although we've always been a cat family (two years apart after losing our 18 year old kitten). I've taken allergy medication my entire adult life, even without a cat for 2 years. I knew I was going to be in trouble if I didn't do something to clean the air. So far I have been able to maintain my allergy free state and my children have shown no reaction at all to our new kittens and I attribute this in large part to having these two machines running 24/7. I spend most of my time Time every day in my bedroom as I now work from home and there is also a distant second grader in my room. Whenever I leave my room for an extended period of time (to cook dinner or go for a walk), I turn the volume up to full, which is pretty loud but very effective. When I'm here all day, I turn it on quietly and can't even hear it running. I sleep with it at a medium level, which delivers a good level of white noise, and with the night setting on, the indicator lights are dimmed.
