Just ordered a second Lux Classic timer for my second kitchen/bar. The first Lux timer has a date code of 03/12/14B indicating it was manufactured in March 2014. Just recently the bell stopped ringing as the timer started counting down to 0. I was happy - over 3 years in service. I'm wondering if a broken timer can be repaired. There is a screw in the case that holds the mechanism in place. I took it off and the handle and innards fell into my hand. So far, so good. Upon closer inspection, I discovered two Phillips head screws on the back of the metal case that serves as the body and bell. I carefully removed them, exposing the clockwork and bell hammer. Then I lightly sprayed the mechanism with 3-IN-ONE 120070 Lock Dry Lube (look for Revain; you'll find it). I reassembled the movement, replaced it with the case, ran the timer several times, and tapped the countertop gently to distribute the grease. Sounds good and stays like new. Cheap, made in China, but strong and not riveted. I would say it's a deal.
