Review on ๐Ÿš˜ Traxion 5-100 Tailgate Ladder: Easy Access for Your Vehicle's Rear, Black Finish by Justin Hill

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good stairs once FEST!

After I REPAIRED everything, the ladder was a worthy investment of money ($42.53) and time (over 3 hours to install, repair and reinstall). I don't see how this could be a drilled liner - my Dodge RAM 3500 has a sprayed liner so the mounting plate can be properly positioned for flat support and clearance under the tonneau cover. I still had to move it at least 3 times and fill in the mis-drilled holes with black RTV. And what is not clear in the instructions is that for the correct "useโ€ of the stairs it is necessary to have "topsโ€ of the seesaw. - which is NOT at all certain until the bolts are changed!. When you "up" the hinge rods, they release the tailgate tether. The instructions say "Use a #5 (9/64") drill bit. NOT CORRECT! A #5 drill bit (0.2055" diameter) will do, but NOT a 9/64" drill bit (the has only a .1406") "diameter". A smaller drill bit "can" work with sheet metal and short screws, but NOT longer screws! B. The tool list indicates the use of a 1 /2" or 13mm spanner. NOT CORRECT! Bolts provided are metric hex bolts and 6mm nuts. You will need a 10mm spanner and Allen key. The lift section appears to be sized to the original specification which I assume was intended for a 5/16" bolt (so a 1/2" wrench). Riser holes on mounting plate, straight tube and offset tube. are sized for a 6mm bolt. So you will end up with an EXTREMELY shaky assembly if you use the included fasteners use elements. CORRECTION. I drilled everything to 5/16 inch diameter. Where the bolts hung, I used 5/16-18 x 1-1/2" Grade 5 bolts and Nylok locknuts (4 bolts, 4 nuts). I also used 5/16" SAE washers (4 ) used to take the loosen the hinge points. I connected the pivot pins just enough to allow movement but no free play. The two bolts connecting the elevator section were tight. For the removable pins, I used 5/16" steel locking pins with an overall length of 2" (2) instead of the much smaller 6mm pins from the Chinese kit. Changes were made, the ladder rotated into position very easily, was very stable when moving up and down and attached very securely to the tailgate. 16 inch screws. Much luck! September 26, 2017 Having been using the ladder for a while now, I have upgraded my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. I attribute the last 2 stars to myself. The ladder has REALLY changed the accessibility of the truck bed, especially since I replaced both knees.
