First, let me get some important information out of the way. This is an expansion for Imperial Assault, don't buy it if you don't have the base game. Since I haven't played Imperial Assault's skirmish mode yet, this will be about the campaign only. So what do you get when you buy the Twin Shadows add-on? Short List of Components: 10 plastic figures, 12 map tiles, 2 hero sheets (with corresponding hero class decks of 9 cards each), 11 deployment cards, 6 agenda cards, 4 additional mission cards, 6 item cards, 9 imperial class cards. 5 reward cards, 2 supply cards, 3 task cards (for skirmish players). 4 condition cards (the new condition is called Weakened) and 5 condition tokens 8 device tokens (used by one of the new heroes) 10 damage tokens 6 warp tokens 1 skirmish card sheet 2 skirmish mission cards 4 ally and villain tokens 8 ID tokens with 24 ID stickers, how many right? But what does it actually add to the game? Let's start with the campaign missions. Twin Shadows adds a total of 6 new side missions that can be integrated into your campaign from the original Imperial Assault box: 2 hero side missions (for new heroes), 2 imperial side missions from the agenda sets, 1 gray side mission (one of those , which are randomly chosen into the side mission deck at the beginning of the campaign) and 1 green side mission (one of those chosen by the rebels at the beginning of the campaign). It annoys me that 2/6 has to be brought in by an Imperial player to get game time and the green side quest is just another way for the rebels to get Han Solo as an ally. But Twin Shadows also has a way of making it less annoying. Additionally, a mini-campaign is built in which includes 4 missions (2 of the missions have branching options like the normal campaign) that uses the new missions. Not only is this a good way to complete all the new missions, but it also saves time for a group of players. I know it can be difficult to get a group together on a regular basis, but the mini-campaign can easily be completed in a session or two instead of 6+. The two new heroes are very unique. Biv Bodhrik is a character who will charge and shoot at you in melee combat, while Saska Teft is a support/ranged specialist who opens up many possibilities. Your miniatures are beautiful and look even better when colored. When it comes to miniatures, don't expect Boba Fett or R2-D2 and C-3PO. Although they appear in some missions, in this campaign they are presented in the form of tokens. Also, your Imperial player cannot get Boba Fett as an ally unless you buy a Boba Fett set (which also gives you a miniature). Finally, the Imperial player gets 2 new types of figures he/she can attach: Heavy Stormtroopers (do slightly more hits than normal and can take more hits) and Tusken Raiders. The more options, the better! Overall I think the content added to the main game is worth the price if you have people to play it with. The addition of unique Star Wars characters like droids and Boba Fett makes the game feel even more Star Wars than before. Increasing the hero pool to 8 means there is less chance of heroes being picked again and again, making the campaign more unique each time, as are the other Imperial classes doing the same. If you're playing the Imperial Assault campaign mode, I think Twin Shadows is a must-try.
