None of the pictures show the microphone cable being routed through the cable guides. Perhaps that's because they snap into two pieces when removed for cable management. It can also drop off 1/2 inch from the bottom when the mic is pointing down, but about 4 inches when the mic is oriented the way it should (depending on your mic). The bar allows the singer to play guitar or piano or whatever and sing at the same time.
