I am a mobile DJ and have been using the AKG Perception Wireless System live for many years. Eight possible channels with very reliable vocals and minor problems with dropouts or interference. Easy to set up and use. Uses only one AA battery and did a great job with a rechargeable battery! A moderate amount of hissing noise can be heard with this microphone during operation. The handheld transmitter is lightweight and although it's made of plastic like most mics in this price range, it's solidly built - still looking good after many uses, only some of the words on the mics have started to fade. I love this tapered mic arm design - it allows the user to hold it at a comfortable width and fits a range of different mic clamps. This system is more reliable than many more expensive wireless microphone systems. I say goodbye to this AKG system mainly because of the on/mute/off switch. I chair events and pass the microphone on to others for toasts and speeches. About twice a year someone, thinking they're doing themselves a favor, turns off the mic after a performance. I hand the mic back and am about to announce what's going to happen next and notice that it's off. Since the entire audience is looking at me for the announcement, I have to turn the mic back on and wait about 4 seconds for it to sync with the receiver before I can speak into the mic, creating an awkward silence. Another thing I don't like about the on/mute/off button is that it's a bit harder to reach the mute setting in the middle without toggling it on or off. I've contacted AKG support a few times with questions. and they always came back to me with helpful answers. Unfortunately, AKG's next-generation wireless handheld system (WMS 470) uses the same type of on/mute/off switch. Another feature I would like is the ability to scan for the best frequencies. /channels to use is a feature only available on more expensive systems. I've also bought Perception Wireless Lavalier Loops (a small lapel mic) and haven't had much luck with them. Overall, the AKG Perception 45 is a great portable wireless laptop. Microphone system for money. I would probably keep it as my main system if there weren't people using my mics every weekend.
