Review on Voltage Transformer Step Up High Voltage Generator by Tyler Fountas

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works but don't force it

I bought two for the price of one for Testing and one for actual use and during my rudimentary evaluations I applied 5.7 to 6 volts and pulled out the sparks for as long as possible. They were impressive for such a small device at around 3 inches, which implies the voltage rating in the advertisement is correct as it was half the power, but I believe that within a short time the dielectric epoxy failed due to breakdown and the device stopped working to discharge through the appropriate wires, and began to discharge internally with a characteristic muffled click. I don't know the exact voltage at which the breakdown occurred, nor do I know the condition of the insulation prior to my work, but as far as I can tell I wasn't very happy about it. However, you get something for your money, so to speak.

Pros
  • Widely used - it can be used as a high voltage power source for school science experiments, electronic salute, electronic instrument, negative ion generator and small science productions
