Well the moral is you get what you pay for. RCA was cheap so I bought an RCA remote control transmitter that I could use to control my audio/video gear hidden in the master bedroom closet. The TV hangs on the bedroom wall. Surprisingly, the problem isn't the distance from the receiver to the transmitter. The problem is the sensitivity of the receiver to the remote controls. I originally had the receiver on a dresser about 8-10 feet from the bed. The receiver did not receive any signals. I tried 5ft, then 2. At 2ft I was finally able to get the receiver to read my remote reliably. So now the receiver balances across the room on my headboard instead of on my dress - not ideal. Please note this was not limited to a remote control. This was for 3 different remote controls for 3 different devices. In case there was a problem with the room, I tried the device in the basement. Same problem. So in hindsight I would recommend paying a bit more to set up an HF transmitter that can work more reliably.
